Spring Open Gardens’ Day

On April 22nd, join us from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Montgomery County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office and celebrate Earth Day by roaming the gardens created and maintained by the Montgomery County Master Gardeners.

Master Gardeners will be available to guide you and answer any questions you may have as you walk through the various gardens of your choice: Adaptive, Aquaponics, Bog, Composting, Discovery, EarthKind, Floral, Greenhouse, Herb, Memory, Orchard, Turf, & Vegetables.

Some garden areas will even be giving away free plants while supplies last!

Master Gardener Specialists are also available to answer any problems you may be experiencing in your own garden areas.

AND… If you are interested in creating a Fairy Garden or starting a Worm Farm, then you will want to attend one of these gardening classes offered in conjunction with the Open Gardens Day event.  Each class  is limited to 30 participants due to the hands-on nature of each presentation.  Children are welcome with parent supervision. 10:00 a.m. – “Fairy Gardens”:

Fairy Gardens can add some magic to your outdoor space! Learn how to create a fantasy world in minuscule plots that include live plants and other mini accessories. Fairy Gardens can add a “highlight of interest” to your garden beds or a corner window. We will have a drawing so one lucky winner will take home a whimsical garden.

11:00 a.m. – “Old MacDonald had a Farm, E-I-E-I-Eww!”:

Come get your hands dirty and learn how to be a successful worm farmer in this hands-on workshop where you will learn how to “wrangle worms” and build a worm farm. Who knows, you might be the lucky attendee who will go home with the working worm farm you helped to build.

Please note that at this time, only one garden meets ADA guidelines; however, several other gardens may be viewed from concrete/blacktop surfaces.
